How it works
A Good Time has one rhythm, and it is the same for everyone.
During the day
Say it when you think of it
Hold the button and talk, for up to two minutes. Or take a photo and give it one short line. Send it to one person or to several.
Until 19:00
It waits
Nothing is delivered straight away. Until it is delivered, you can still take back anything you sent today, and they will never know it existed.
19:00, their time
It all arrives at once
At 19:00 in their own time zone, they get one notification, or none if nothing came. Then they sit down and hear the day, person by person.
The notification says how much arrived, and from whom or from how many people. Never what is in it.
The notification comes at 19:00, or up to about a quarter of an hour later. Anything sent after their 19:00 waits for the next evening, and the app tells you which evening before you send. A note that waits for a connection counts from when it is uploaded.
What it is not
A Good Time leaves out most of what makes messaging feel like work.
No chat
There are no text messages. Voice notes, and the odd photo.
No read receipts
Nobody learns whether or when you listened. The app never reports it.
No typing dots
Nothing tells the other person that you are recording, or about to send.
No feed, no groups
Nothing to scroll. Each link is private, between two people.
No streaks, no badges
No reactions, emoji or unread numbers waiting on your home screen.
No real time
Nothing interrupts the day. One notification in the evening, at most.
The details
Voice notes up to two minutes
Hold to record, or slide to lock and talk hands-free. Listen back before you send.
Photos with one line
Take one or pick one, and add a caption of up to 100 characters if you like. On your phone, the photo is resized and its location data removed before it is uploaded.
Take it back
You can delete anything you sent today until it is delivered at their 19:00. Once it has been delivered, it stays delivered.
One person, or several
Send the same note to several people at once. Each of them gets a private copy at their own 19:00, and they do not see each other.
A code, or a link
To connect, one of you shares a six-character code or an invite link. A code works once and expires after 24 hours. You can add more people at any time.
The last 30 days
The archive holds what you sent and received over the last 30 days. After that, it is deleted from the server.
Works without a signal
Recordings wait on your phone and upload when you are back online. Nothing is lost unless you throw it away.
Four languages
English, German, French and Spanish. The app follows your phone, or you choose in Settings.
Quiet about you, too
A Good Time keeps what it needs to deliver your notes, and nothing to study you.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, in the app or on this website.
- The notification never contains a caption or a word of what you said. Only how much arrived, and from whom or from how many people.
- Photos lose their location data on your phone, before they are uploaded.
- Everything is stored on one server we run ourselves. It is not end-to-end encrypted, and we would rather tell you so.
- Messages are deleted from the server after 30 days. Deleting your account deletes them from the server straight away; database backups age out within about 15 days.
Questions
Can I choose a different time?
No. The evening delivery is at 19:00 for everyone, in each person’s own time zone. One shared rhythm, on purpose.
What if we live in different time zones?
Each person gets their messages at 19:00 in their own time zone, the one set in their app. When their phone moves to another zone, Settings offers to switch. Before you send, the app tells you whether it arrives this evening or tomorrow evening.
Will I know whether they listened?
No. There are no read receipts, and the app never reports playback. “Delivered” only means that their 19:00 has passed.
Can I send text messages?
No. A Good Time is for voice notes and photos. A photo can carry one line of up to 100 characters.
I sent something I regret.
Anything you sent today that has not been delivered yet can be deleted from the “Today” list on the main screen. They will never know it existed. Once it has been delivered, it cannot be taken back.
What happens if I unlink someone?
Every voice note and photo between the two of you is deleted, in both directions, and cannot be restored. The other person is not notified.
Is there an iPhone version?
No. A Good Time is only for Android, through Google Play.
